My First Impression

I am always on the hunt for scams, and it is in my nature to be skeptical UNTIL I’m proven wrong. Here are some notable red flags I’ve come across after digging around their site:

  1. Their homepage has a huge tacky-looking Halloween banner. It is currently June…
  2. They have categories like “Halloween”, “Mental Health Awareness”, “Category”, etc.
  3. The bottom left of the screen keeps showing pop-ups of “Recently Purchased”.
  4. Their product images look heavily Photoshopped.
  5. They use inconsistent letter casing. In the footer, they show, “Shipping-policy”. None of the other policies in the footer have a hyphen or lower case ‘policy’.
  6. On their Terms of Service page, they mention in their Governing Law section, “…in accordance with the laws of UK.” France and the U.K. seem to be common countries to use with these scammy shops.
  7. They have poorly written English on several pages. For example, “We offer products that you might like and use, such as homes, clothing, accessories, etc., all of which will appear in our stores!”

There are many more red flags that I undoubtedly missed. This is just my initial overview of the shop’s website – keep scrolling for a deeper dive!

No, they likely are not. They don’t state anything on their site regarding efforts in sustainability. Check out this article What Is Fast Fashion, Anyway? by the good trade to learn more about fast fashion, sustainability, and how to spot it from a mile away!

Redcloudbird Review & Order Details

I ordered the below items on 3/6/2023 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $113.96 to 伊工達網絡科技有限公司 (paypal@keep-on-line.com) via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *ROMSEANSHOP”. View Order Confirmation & View PayPal Payment Receipt

1) Christmas Fashion Waist Twist Dress

Brand Label: Unknown

Color/Size/Cost: White / M / $39.99

Country: Made in China

Material: 100% Acrylic

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my proportions. The waist sits too high. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is terrible and unwearable. It is very thin and see-through, and the material has that very cheap, synthetic feel to it. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: It is NOT worth the price I paid.

2) Solid-Color Loose Plush Lapel Jacket

Brand Label: Unknown

Color/Size/Cost: Khaki / S / $39.99

Country: Made in China

Material: 100% Polyester

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but is poorly designed. The collar and cuffs are WAY too thick, and the sleeves are short considering how oversized it is. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is terrible and unwearable. It is missing buttons on the cuffs, the material is like a cheap Sherpa blanket, and it is too thick in the double-layered areas (the collar, for example, is so thick that it doesn’t lay flat). See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Value: It is NOT worth the price I paid.

Return & Refund Info

I emailed support (support@redcloudbird.com) to request a full return on March 24th. I went back and forth with them for several days, and they refused approval by withholding the return address. I filed a claim with PayPal (see next section for details) on April 4th.

Provided Return Address: Wan No. 175, Wan Chai Road, Wan Chai, 999077 C2 (Hong Kong)

PayPal closed the case in my favor, and I received a partial refund of $88.06 on June 14th. I had previously received a ‘random’ refund amount of $25.90 (this number does not match the cost of anything I ordered) back to my PayPal on March 19th. These two totals combined equal the original amount I paid. I received the complete refund eighty-one days after initially requesting a return. – View Refund Receipt

Customer Service Experience

Responsiveness

Though they responded to each message within 3 days, support is AWFUL. It was like talking back and forth with a brick wall. There was a notable language barrier, and I asked for the return address OVER SEVEN TIMES.

I kid you not. Here is part of the conversation (all happened in one day):

  • ME: “Are you going to give me a return address so I can return and get a full refund?”
  • Support: “As our warehouse checked, the product we sent to you is correct indeed. If you would like to return, the shipping fee may be very expensive to you. So how about we refund you 5USD as compensation and you keep the products?”
  • ME: “5USD is very little. Even if the return cost is high, it is still a better deal than 5USD. Please give me the return address.”
  • Support: “I’m very sorry, but I have tried my best to compensate you. If the amount is too much, it may cause trouble to my work. I hope you can forgive me.”
  • ME: “Please give me the return address.”
  • Support: “We feel terribly sorry for your dissatisfaction. But we can assure you that our products are absolutely up to standard. Sorry for what happened. We really tried our best to solve this for you.”
  • ME: “Interesting. You are a scam company. I will be filing a claim with PayPal. Thank you!”
  • Support: “As our warehouse checked, the product we sent to you is correct indeed. If you would like to return, the shipping fee may be very expensive to you. So how about we refund you 10USD as compensation and you keep the products?”

I stopped replying here.

Shipping

They did not notify me of the out-of-stock item. I found this out after emailing them.

Refund/PayPal Claim

I explained to PayPal that I tried to resolve the return issue with the seller directly, but the customer service experience was poor and they repeatedly ignored my request for a return address. PayPal reached out to the seller, who responded with a return address in Hong Kong. I mailed the package on May 5th through USPS, which cost $27.41.

Redcloudbird never received my package. About one month after sending it, the package was returned to the sender (me) due to an incomplete or nonexistent address. I informed PayPal about this, and they closed the claim in my favor on June 14th. I received the remainder of my refund (as previously mentioned, I already received a random ~$25 refund from Redcloudbird).

Is Redcloudbird Legit or a Scam?

‘Sister’ Sites

Read this List of Online Stores that I suspect the owner of Redcloudbird also owns and operates. I put this list together using plagiarism tools like Copyleaks (premium), and by looking for clues like identical landing pages, matching site logos, PayPal merchant names (if there are similarities to my other orders), business addresses, site layouts, etc.

Reverse Image Search

Based on my findings, Redcloudbird steals product photos from brands including BARA Sportswear (and undoubtedly many more). Here is an example of a skirt from BARA Sportswear (~$74), used on Redcloudbird’s site ($24.99):

No suspicious information (such as lawsuits or alerts from the Better Business Bureau) was found.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, this company is a SCAM and I would avoid shopping here.

I paid for my items (they snuck in a 20% tax after I submitted my payment), and received 2 out of the 3 things I ordered (which were extremely subpar in quality). I had to inquire about the missing item, as they did not inform me that it was out of stock. I requested a return, and they kept responding with templated messages that failed to address my questions and concerns.

They never approved my return, and I had to file a claim with PayPal. They finally responded to PayPal and provided their return address in Hong Kong. I sent the package, and one month later, the package was returned to me due to the address being incomplete or nonexistent. PayPal closed the claim in my favor and I got a full refund. It took OVER 2 MONTHS! What an absolute nightmare.

AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!
