Is BERLOOK Legit? Here’s What To Know About Their Sustainable Swimwear

Status: Pending Refund

Let’s get straight to the point. Is berlook.com (the swimwear-focused clothing shop) a legit website? The short answer is yes, they seem to be legitimate. I received my swimwear order, was approved for a return, and mailed the package back to their warehouse/returns center (I am now waiting on the refund). Now the biggest question is, assuming the refund is successful, would I shop here again?

In this honest and detailed review, I will share my purchase and return experience, my thoughts on their clothing, brand information/research, and my final verdict/recommendation. Keep reading for more!

About BERLOOK

Is BERLOOK sustainable?

Yes, they appear to follow many sustainable practices. According to their various sustainability pages, 80% of their items are made from natural fabrics, and 415K plastic bottles are repurposed into recycled swimwear. Their packaging is 100% compostable, sourced from sustainable plants. They also claim to partner with certified factories ensuring safe, fair working conditions and ethical production. They allegedly contribute 1% of revenue to carbon removal, supporting emerging technologies.

Here is a list of sustainability-related organizations/certifications they claim to be partnered with and/or have. For the ones I can confirm, I have linked to evidence.

  • Certificated Global Recycled Standard (GRS)
  • Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
  • Stripe Climate Member
  • amfori, WRAP, and SA 8000

I can confirm that my items arrived in a burlap-like pouch in a plastic bag made of 20-40% bio-based material.

The swimwear tags state that their recycled nylon is produced by Xinsen Technology and their recycled polyester is produced by Sheng Hong (jsessh.com).

According to my tracking information, my order was originally shipped from China. I received my order from a distribution center in New York (United States).

Additionally, according to their FAQ page, most of their warehouse supply chain is in China, and their after-sales/returns warehouses are in the United States and Hong Kong.

BERLOOK Review and Order Details

I ordered the below items on 3/13/2024 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $208 to BERLOOK via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *BER78GJ”. View Order Confirmation

1) Cut-Out One-Piece Swimsuit

Brand Label: BERLOOK

Color/Size/Cost: Coffee / M / $41.93 (Sale Price)

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Main- 74% Recycled Polyamide / 26% Spandex
  • Lining- 87% Recycled Polyamide / 13% Spandex

Expectation: It is what I was expecting, for the most part, in terms of overall appearance. Though, the brown color is more of a burgundy-tinted brown.

Quality: In my opinion, the overall quality of the materials is decent, but it is not made/designed very well and has a flaw. You can see the inner lining folding out, and one of the loops for the string to pass through is not completely sewn down and is starting to tear. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my body shape. The torso length is half to a full inch too short. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this BERLOOK one-piece swimsuit.

Though I like the soft inner lining, ribbed outer material, and overall coverage, it isn’t the right fit and is not sewn well. As previously stated, the torso is too short, one of the loopholes is already tearing due to misaligned sewing, and you can see the black inner lining folding outward and showing on the edges of the cups. This shouldn’t be happening and indicates that it is now sewn properly.

2) Mesh Underwire Bikini Top & Tie Bottoms

Brand Label: BERLOOK

Color/Size/Cost:

  • Top- Cyan / M / $29.35 (Sale Price)
  • Bottoms- Cyan / M / $29.35 (Sale Price)

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Main- 100% Recycled Polyester
  • Lining- 80% Recycled Polyamide / 20% Spandex

Expectation: It is not what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance. On the model, the bikini looks more dual-toned (the lace looks much lighter and the base color looks darker). In person, it’s the same shade of blue/teal and looks like a single color. Additionally, the bottoms look much more full-coverage on the model. Though, this could just be a difference in fit since our body proportions are different.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this BERLOOK mesh bikini.

Though I like the back tie, wide adjustable straps, and the fact that it is double-lined, I have a few issues with this. Firstly, I slightly spill out of the cups despite not being busty (I had to remove the padding to alleviate this) and the cups are not very full-coverage.  Secondly, the bottoms are a bit too low-rise for my liking (I was expecting more coverage), but not necessarily a dealbreaker alone. And thirdly, the wire-lined cups don’t lay flat against my skin–I can feel them lifting a little. If I made the straps shorter, they would lift even more. Overall, this bikini is great for shallow and wide-set chests, however, I prefer a more full-coverage bikini and ultimately wouldn’t pay $60 total for this.

3) Lurex Cut-Out Bikini Top & Bottoms

Brand Label: BERLOOK

Color/Size/Cost:

  • Top- Orange / M / $33.55 (Sale Price)
  • Bottoms- Orange / M / $31.88 (Sale Price)

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Main- 80% Recycled Polyamide / 11% Spandex / 9% Metallic
  • Lining- 87% Recycled Polyamide / 13% Spandex

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits half a size too big everywhere. However, sizing down would be too small. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this BERLOOK Lurex bikini.

Even though this bikini is GREAT for wide-set shallow chests, and is a really cute style and interesting material, it isn’t quite the right fit for me. It is a bit too loose on me though I know for a 99% fact it would be too tight sizing down. Also, the bottoms are a bit too exposing for my comfort in the front (though this could be because it’s a bit big and because it is a higher-rise style). I don’t feel comfortable wearing bikini bottoms that show too much of the creases of my bikini line. I also probably wouldn’t pay $60+ for this, considering the amount of misaligned seams and lumpy areas created from the sewing.

4) Floral Cutout One-Piece Swimwear

Brand Label: BERLOOK

Color/Size/Cost: Black / M / $41.94 (Sale Price)

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Main- 94% Recycled Polyamide / 6% Spandex
  • Lining- 93% Recycled Polyester / 7% Spandex

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the overall quality of the materials is decent, but it is not made well. The bikini line area and the cups fold outward, exposing the lighter-colored inner lining. FYI, you can’t see it in these photos because I fixed it. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it is the right size, but not the right fit for my body shape. As with the previous one-piece, the torso length is too short by half to a full inch. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this BERLOOK floral one-piece swimsuit.

Though it is double-layered and a really pretty style, it is not the right fit. As previously stated, the torso length is too short, the inner lining folds outward and shows from the outside in some areas (poor design/sewing), and the center plastic circle is a bit off-center (though not a deal-breaker alone). I do think it is otherwise the perfect fit.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience so far, they are a legitimate shop. I paid for my items, received them within the estimated time frame, was approved for a return, and mailed the return package. I am waiting for the refund.

With that being said, assuming my refund goes through, I would *conditionally* shop here again.

As for the positives, though I wouldn’t keep anything in my order, I generally like the items I purchased and think there is potential for me to find a few bikinis that I like. They are all on par with swimwear you might find at Target (which is decent), and all of them are partially made of recycled materials. As for the negatives, I think the full-priced items are too pricey, some of the colors aren’t well-represented in the product images, and the one-pieces don’t seem to fit longer torsos well.

Overall, with the positives and negatives in mind, I would be willing to shop here again but would avoid one-pieces (since I have a longer torso), and would stick to the sale items (but watch out for some sale items being final).
