Is Oh Polly fast fashion?

While they follow a fast fashion model by keeping up with the trends, they appear to follow some sustainable practices. According to their sustainability page, they recently introduced a clothing rental program with ZOA, which aims to promote a circular economy by reducing consumer waste and fostering sustainable consumption. They’re developing a sustainability strategy, and have a series of goals, including investing in low-impact materials and delivery options and aligning with value-oriented partners.

I can also confirm that my items arrived in recyclable packaging.

Oh Polly Review and Order Details

I ordered the below items on 1/8/2024 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $256.34 to Oh Polly USA Inc via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *OHPOLLYUSAI”. View Order Confirmation

1) Twist Cut-Out Long-Sleeve Mini Dress

Brand Label: Oh Polly

Color/Size/Cost: Midnight Black / 6 / $55

Country: Made in Bangladesh

Material:

  • Shell-94% Nylon / 6% Elastane
  • Lining- 86% Polyester / 14% Elastane

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is good. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits one (MAYBE even two) sizes too small. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this Oh Polly mini dress.

This dress is unique-looking, is made of stretchy and comfy material (the inner lining is very soft), the lining is two layers (so there are three layers total including the outer mesh layer) making it sturdier, and I LOVE the sleeves and the dangling material on both sides of the skirt. Unfortunately, though, it is too tight overall, and the shoulder area is an issue. This may be due to the size, but the shoulders keep rolling down and won’t stay up. Going up a size may help, but they are so far to the ends of my shoulders, that I fear a similar issue. They really should have silicone lining to help keep them in place. I think I have narrower shoulders and this type of style is tough for me to wear comfortably.

2) Embellished Square-Neck Mini Dress

Brand Label: Oh Polly

Color/Size/Cost: White / 6 / $111

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Shell- 84% Polyester / 16% Elastane
  • Lining- 95% Polyester / 5% Elastane

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is good, but it is constructed somewhat poorly and has a defect. It has a small hole, and the side zipper sticks out/is visibly lumpy. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well (like a glove). View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this Oh Polly embellished mini dress.

While the inner lining has two layers and is soft-feeling, and the square neck is flattering, I have a few issues with this. Firstly, it is a bit see-through despite having two base layers and an outer mesh layer. If you squat a bit, you can see through it (enough for me to be uncomfortable). Secondly, the bottom hem of the dress feels a bit tight. If you spread your legs a bit to the side, you feel some constriction. It is not a huge deal since I won’t be doing cartwheels in this, but it is something I noticed. And finally, you can see the material sticking out and slightly right where the side zipper is. As a result, this issue makes the dress unwearable for me (in addition to the small hole at the base of one of the straps of the square neck). This is unfortunate because the dress feels good quality and heavy.

3) Embellished Plunge-Neck High-Split Maxi Dress

Brand Label: Oh Polly

Color/Size/Cost: Blush / 6 / $73

Country: Made in China

Material:

  • Shell & Lining 1- 84% Polyester / 16% Elastane
  • Lining 2- 95% Polyester / 5% Elastane

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is good, but it is constructed somewhat poorly. As with the beaded mini dress, the side zipper sticks out/is visibly lumpy. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well (but is a bit roomy in the chest). View my Body Measurements for size reference. Please note that I am wearing 3.5 inch/8.9cm heels.

Keep or Return: I would return this Oh Polly embellished maxi dress.

As with the white mini dress, this dress feels very heavy, has a soft inner lining that is double-layered, and is a beautiful style. Unfortunately, though, it suffers from the same zipper issue. You can see the side with the zipper sticking out a bit unnaturally. This bothers me enough to return it. It is too bad because I think the dress is GORGEOUS and fits beautifully overall (fabric tape would fix the roomy chest). I wish they put the zippers on the back.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, they are a legitimate shop. I paid for my items, received them within the estimated time frame, successfully completed a return, and received a full refund.

With that being said, I would shop here again!

Despite running into some quality issues like a small hole and bunching zippers, I would still shop here again for these reasons:

  1. They follow some sustainable and charitable business practices, such as partnering with the Salvation Army to donate clothing and offering a clothing rental program.
  2. As an international (U.S.) customer, the return cost is reasonable ($9.99).
  3. All of the dresses look as expected, are generally good quality, and are reasonably priced.
  4. Considering the order came from overseas, it arrived VERY quickly (8 days).

Overall, I had a good shopping experience. However, I would avoid dresses with side zippers for future purchases.

To wrap up this post, regardless of my experience, be sure to read as many customer reviews as possible. If you found this post helpful in your search for Oh Polly reviews, please consider sharing and commenting (via Reddit) below. Have a great day!
