About 12th Tribe

What is 12th Tribe?

They are a women’s clothing shop with a focus on festival and party wear. It started as a passion project by Demi, the founder, who built a website and did pop-up shops with a few vintage items. She eventually moved to LA and dressed women for Coachella, which became a turning point for the brand. Today, they not only cater to festival season and travel but also to everyday and night wear.

Is 12th Tribe ethical?

No, they likely are not. They don’t state anything on their site regarding efforts in sustainability, or ways that they give back to the community.

12th Tribe Review and Order Details

I ordered the below items on 10/4/2023 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $281.80 to 12th Tribe via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *12TH TRIBE”. View Order Confirmation

1) Emmy White Sequin Micro Mini Dress

  • Color, Size, and Cost: White / M / $64
  • Country: Made in China
  • Material: 100% polyester
12th tribe dress comparison

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. It is comparable to a dress you might find at Target or H&M.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well. View my body measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this 12th Tribe dress.

While I love the clear sequins, and the dress overall fits comfortably (although it’s not overly figure-flattering), I dislike that the zipper is difficult to get up and down. The sequins right along the edge are sewn in a way that partially blocks the zipper. Also, it was a bit of a struggle getting this dress over my hips, since the outer sequin material is non-stretch. I was able to do it without tearing any seams, but it wasn’t easy. Additionally, the price seems a bit high for the quality.

2) Augustine Rust Halter Jumpsuit

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Red / M / $68
  • Country: Made in China
  • Material: 100% Rayon
12th tribe jumpsuit comparison

Expectation: It is what I was expecting, for the most part, in terms of overall appearance. The hole in the center, however, seems much bigger on me than on the model in the product image.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. It is comparable to a jumpsuit you might find at Target or H&M.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well on the bottom and a size too big on the top. View my body measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this 12th Tribe jumpsuit.

Firstly, I want to point out that I normally have issues with rompers and one-pieces being too short in the torso, but this fits me well in that aspect. Secondly, while I do like the comfortable and flowy feel of the jumpsuit, it isn’t the most flattering fit. The bottoms fit right, but the top is too big and I can’t fill it out. Additionally, I see small holes along the back seam due to the over-stretching of the fabric. I lightly pulled the fabric apart on both sides of the seam, and the holes formed. So, if the bottoms fit like a glove, I guarantee just sitting down would create these holes. Overall, for $68, I expect a better-fitting and better-quality garment.

3) Coco Low Rise Cargo Pants

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Blue / M / $72
  • Country: Made in China
  • Material: 100% Cotton
12th tribe jeans comparison

Expectation: They aren’t quite what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance. The fit on the model and product title shows low-rise.  These do NOT fit like low-rise jeans. They are somewhere between mid-rise and high-rise (at least for me).

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. They are comparable to a pair of jeans you might find at Target or H&M.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and though they are the correct size, they are not right for my body shape. View my body measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return these 12th Tribe jeans.

Although the back seam is slightly crooked, I think for the right body shape, these could be a good purchase. I am an hourglass shape, and these are better suited for someone who is more ruler-shaped and has smaller hips (these are non-stretch, so they are not very accommodating to many body types). The hips are at least 1-2 inches too tight, and the waist is at least 1 inch too big. You can’t see it well in the pictures, but there is some pretty significant gapping.

4) Celeste Gold Halter Lamé Top

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Gold / M / $52
  • Country: Made in China
  • Material: 92% Polyester, and 8% Spandex
12th tribe halter top comparison

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is okay. It is comparable to a halter top you might find at Target or H&M.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits slightly on the tight side. View my body measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this 12th Tribe halter top.

To state the positives, it is really cute and flattering. The negatives, however, are that the material feels a bit itchy, and it is hard to get on because the band right under the bust area doesn’t stretch very much. It took me several minutes to squeeze myself into it. If I were to go up a size, it would probably be too big everywhere else. Also, $52 is a ludicrous price for this halter top.

Provided Return Address: 6010 Cajon Blvd., San Bernadino, CA 92407

Note: If your return is international, I recommend printing out the native language version of the return address. For example, if your return is in China, print out the address written in Chinese characters. Tape it on the package next to the provided English address — per the advice of a USPS worker, doing this can help with delivery on the other side. You’ll probably need to ask the support team of the store you purchased from for the native version. They may or may not provide it to you, as it is not mandatory for successful delivery.

Support Experience

  • Very easy and fast return process (all done within their portal).
  • They additionally offer the refund option of a gift card + an extra amount ($51.20 in my case).

Provided return instructions and guidelines:

  1. Please print the packing slip and insert it in the package.
  2. Please ensure that your return is dropped off with the courier no later than 15 days from the order delivery date.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, they are a legitimate shop. I paid for my items, received them within the estimated time frame, successfully completed a return, and received a full refund (minus fees).

With that being said, I personally would not shop here again.

To start with a couple of positives, the return process is easy and straightforward, the return address is domestic (in the USA), and I received everything in just over a week. As for the negatives, the refund took over three weeks to receive, most of the items in my order don’t fit well, and the prices are too high. The quality of everything in my order is Target-quality at best – I’m not necessarily turned off by this (some of Target’s clothing is great!), but I would NOT keep a majority of my items just due to the cost.

Perhaps someone else would have better luck at this shop, but I personally do not think they are a good fit for my expectations and needs.

To wrap up this review, regardless of my experience, be sure to read other customers’ reviews if they are available. Every experience varies, and it is important that you are as informed as possible before making any ‘risky’ purchasing decision.
