About Lucy and Yak

Is Lucy and Yak ethical?

Yes, they appear to be ethical/sustainable. According to their Sustainability page, they have the following certifications: GOTS, GRS, and the Organic Content Standard (OCS). GOTS is considered the leading global textile processing standard for organic fibers; it requires social criteria and working conditions to be assessed and verified in the supply chain by an independent third party. The OCS, on the other hand, is a global standard that verifies organically grown raw materials used in products. With the OCS label, consumers can trust that L&Y products contain organic materials, as verified by a third party. They are additionally a member of Sedex, a third-party auditing company that ensures fair working conditions and sustainable practices. I can also confirm that my items arrived in recyclable packaging.

Lucy and Yak Review and Order Details

I ordered the below items on 10/19/2023 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $285.30 to Global-e via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *GLBE LUCY YAK”. View Order Confirmation

1) Drew Straight-Leg Jeans

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Light Wash Blue / W30 (UK 12 Reg) / $75
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material: 100% Organic Cotton

Expectation: They are exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality of the materials overall is decent, however, it is poorly constructed (the back seam is crooked). See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and they fit 1-2 sizes too small. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return these Lucy and Yak jeans.

They unfortunately are too small, and the back seam is slightly crooked. However, I do like the thinner but sturdy non-stretch material and the VERY deep front pockets.

2) Original Dungaree

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Black / UK 12 (Reg) / $74
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material: 100% Organic Cotton

Expectation: It is exactly what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is decent. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would keep this Lucy and Yak jumpsuit/ dungaree.

I struggle to find one-pieces that fit due to my proportions (larger bottom half), but these fit loosely and comfortably! The light and thin canvas material feels nice, and has some give, although it is non-stretch. It is not stiff or crinkly like some canvas items are. It is pricey, however, I would be willing to pay a higher price to support a sustainable brand (especially since I like the fit).

3) Harper Fleece Jacket

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Flowers In A Row / M (UK 12-14) / $117
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material: 100% Recycled Polyester

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is good. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits 1 size too big. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this Lucy and Yak jacket.

To be clear, I LOVE this jacket. It feels very thick and sturdy, has a beautiful pattern, the sherpa material on the outside is soft and cozy (not silky soft but like a blanket that has been washed and dried two times), and the oversized fit and massive pockets are great. Everyone should have one of these in their closet! I just need mine a size smaller…

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, they are a legitimate shop. I paid for my items, received them within the estimated time frame, successfully completed a return, and received a full refund.

With that being said, I would absolutely shop here again!

First and foremost, I greatly appreciate the efforts this company has put into sustainability. Everything from listing the location of all of their suppliers, to my order arriving in a paper bag, to the clothing being made from organic and recycled materials is incredible. Secondly, the prices are steep, HOWEVER, sustainable clothing isn’t cheap. For myself, the quality is good enough that it is worth the price (especially if this means supporting an ethical brand). Thirdly, even though the return address is in the U.K., they only deduct $9.95 for the prepaid return label which is amazing. Most overseas returns are significantly more expensive. Finally, my order arrived lightning fast considering it came all the way from the United Kingdom. I am overall happy with my shopping experience and would give this shop another go.
