HolyClothing Review and Order Details

I ordered the below items on 11/17/2023 to my address in North Carolina (United States). I paid a total of $262.65 to HolyClothing (payments@holyclothing.com) via PayPal. The charge appears on my credit card statement as “PAYPAL *HOLYCLOTHNG”. View Order Confirmation

1) Demeter Maxi

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Vintage Grey / M / $113
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material: 100% Viscose/Rayon

Expectation: It is VERY different from what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance. Many of their products have images of people wearing the garments, and images of the garment (like the one shown above) against a white background. The images without models wearing the clothing are not fair representations of the products. In this case, the colors are completely off. Mine is all light grey, whereas the product image shows a very dark gray chiffon and a medium grey base color. Additionally, the rope looks WAY longer in the product image.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality of the materials overall is pretty good, however, it is poorly constructed (a small area is ripped, and tons of loose threading). See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits well. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would keep this HolyClothing Demeter Maxi dress.

The dress overall has a great heavy weight to it (the material is pretty soft and thick), looks gorgeous, fits well (the belt allows for an adjustable waist), and I love the pockets! There are, however, a few negative things to point out. Firstly, I found a handful of loose threads. Not a dealbreaker, but it is a bit telling of the overall quality. And secondly, I found a small section that is ripped. Again, not a dealbreaker since I have a sewing kit and the ripped area happens to be in a discrete place.

Keeping in mind that specialty clothing like this is limited in terms of options and availability, I can ignore the small flaws since it overall feels good quality.

2) Avallon Maxi Limited Edition Purple Thistle

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Purple Thistle / M / $113
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material: 100% Viscose/Rayon
holyclothing avallon maxi comparison

Expectation: It is what I was expecting, for the most part, in terms of overall appearance. It is a bit more of a saturated purple in person.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality of the materials overall is decent, however, it is poorly constructed (found a small piece of plastic in the material, the clasp is poorly sewn, etc.). See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and it fits one size too big. View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this HolyClothing Avallon Maxi dress.

While it has a good weight to it, the inner material feels sturdy and soft, and the embroidered areas along the chest and straps are a nice detail (not the greatest quality, but nice-looking nonetheless), I have a few complaints. Firstly, it looks a bit cheap (specifically the velvet area). It reminds me of a grown-up version of a princess dress from Party City (but better quality). Secondly, I found a random piece of plastic lodged in the material (at the bottom of the dress) and a small hole. Both of these things alone are not dealbreakers since I can easily mend them with a sewing kit… but flaws nonetheless. Thirdly, the clasp at the top of the zipper is sewn poorly, causing the zipper not to be able to zip up all the way (I have to leave half a centimeter or so unzipped). Also not a dealbreaker alone, as I can opt to not use the clasp, or can fix it with a sewing kit. And lastly, it is too big. Sizing down should fix the issue, however, I noticed that on my body, the hips fit okay, but the waist is 2-3 inches too loose. I suspect sizing down would still leave extra space in the waist.

Keeping in mind that specialty clothing like this is limited in terms of options and availability, I would not repurchase this dress, but I could see someone else liking this as the overall quality is decent.

3) Robyn Midi

  • Color, Size, and Cost: Deadly Nightshade / M / $83
  • Country: Made in India
  • Material:
    • Outer Layer- 100% Viscose/Rayon
    • Inner Layer- 100% Cotton
holyclothing robyn midi comparison

Expectation: It isn’t what I was expecting in terms of overall appearance. In person, the color is a darker, more red-toned purple.

Quality: In my opinion, the quality is pretty good. See my Quality Comparison & Rating Chart to know my current quality-rating standards.

Fit: I ordered based on the size guide provided, and the outer garment fits a bit loosely, while the inner garment doesn’t fit my proportions (it is big in some areas and tight in others). View my Body Measurements for size reference.

Keep or Return: I would return this HolyClothing Robyn Midi dress.

I ultimately need a smaller size, but it is a bit complicated since this is two separate pieces put together as one outfit. The outer layer feels very soft and comfortable (the pockets are amazing as well!), and fits loosely. The inner layer feels rougher and is lower quality. The chest area is too big, and the elastic waist fits, but on the snug side. For this to fit well, I would either have to buy the outer layer as a stand-alone item in a smaller size and find a different inner layer, or mend the inner layer to be looser in the waist since a size smaller would definitely be too tight.

Keeping in mind that specialty clothing like this is limited in terms of options and availability, I would exchange this for a smaller size, and could ignore the small flaws.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, they are a legitimate shop. I paid for my items, received them WELL within the estimated time frame, successfully completed a return, and received a full refund.

With that being said, I would purchase from this shop again!

I am aware that specialty/themed clothing like what this shop sells isn’t extremely common. On top of that, good-quality clothing is even harder to find. With both of those things in mind, I am decently satisfied with this shop.

There are many positives to mention. Firstly, I appreciate their efforts in slow fashion (made-to-order items and their buy/sell used clothing Facebook group) and their charitable donations to various organizations. Secondly, I was told that the items would take 4-5 weeks to ship and then an extra few days for delivery. I received everything in under 4 weeks! Thirdly, the clothing overall seems good quality (minus some flaws). All of the items in my order feel fairly heavy, and the materials feel soft and semi-thick. Finally, the return process is super straightforward, and you bypass dealing with customer service by using their step-by-step return portal. The return address is also in the United States, so the return cost is relatively low.

There are a few negatives I would like to point out. All of the garments are not sewn perfectly. Though not super noticeable, each one has a handful of loose and uncut threads, two out of the three items also have either a small hole or a small tear in the material, and the Avallon dress’s hook closure at the top of the zipper is not sewn in the right place, interfering with the zipper. Additionally, the color of every single garment is different from what I expected. The Demeter dress is DRAMATICALLY different from the product image, and the other two are more minor color differences. (Be sure to look at images with a model wearing the clothing. Those are likely to be more accurate.)

I can overlook these issues since the clothing is otherwise solid in quality, and I am savvy with a sewing needle. However, if you are looking for a shop that is reliable in how they represent the color of their clothing or would take issue with minor flaws and aren’t able to mend those issues yourself, perhaps this shop isn’t the best option.

To wrap up this review, regardless of my experience, be sure to read as many customer reviews as possible. If you found this post helpful in your search for HolyClothing reviews, please consider sharing and commenting (via Reddit) below. Have a great day!
