My First Impression

I am always on the hunt for scams, and it is in my nature to be skeptical UNTIL I’m proven wrong. Here are some notable red flags I’ve come across after digging around their site:

  1. They have a tacky-looking homepage banner, and generic stock images on their About page.
  2. They have tons of badges right in your face, with persuasive words like ‘Quality Guarantee’, ‘Fast Delivery’, etc.
  3. They have lots of grammatical errors on their site such as, “…which I co-founded with my elder sister. Initially she set up first clothing store in 2016…”, “Only if our products have quality problems, we will accept return request.”, etc.
  4. I see lots of Photoshopped images.
  5. I can spot at least 5 different font sizes on the homepage, along with a mix of casing – they are generally inconsistent throughout their entire site.
  6. Their Terms of Service page mentions that the governing law is in the U.K. The U.K. and France seem to be common countries to use with scammy sites.
  7. They claim that their products are all made in the USA. I find this hard to believe considering how little information I can find on their business location.
  8. All products that have reviews are 4.5 stars or higher.

There are many more red flags that I left out and undoubtedly missed. This is just my initial overview of the shop’s website – keep scrolling for a deeper dive!

About Ryabe

Are They Sustainable?

No, they likely are not. According to their About page, they allegedly place great emphasis on ethical production, prioritize workers’ rights, promote fair compensation, and claim to give back to society by contributing money to their local government for the medical treatment of COVID-19 patients. Since they don’t substantiate any of these sustainability claims, I am inclined to think they are green-washing. Customer Service Experience

Responsiveness

They responded to each of my emails within 3 days. Though, I had to ask for the return address FOUR times before they provided it to me.

Return

They provided me with the following return/refund options:

  • First Email: “We are willing to give you $36 compensation. Can you keep the order?
  • Second Email: “We can refund you $65 as compensation, could you kindly keep the order?”
  • Third Email: “We are willing to give you $96 compensation. Can you keep the order?”
  • Fourth Email: “We will refund you $110 as compensation, could you keep the order?”

I rejected all offers and moved forward with a standard return/refund back to my original payment. They asked that I email them the return tracking number.

Is Ryabe Legit or a Scam?

‘Sister’ Sites

Read this List of Online Stores that I suspect the owner of Ryabe also owns and operates. I put this list together using plagiarism tools like Copyleaks (premium), and by looking for clues like identical landing pages, matching site logos, PayPal merchant names (if there are similarities to my other orders), business addresses, site layouts, etc.

Reverse Image Search

Based on my findings, there are MANY other small boutiques/online shops/marketplaces that appear to sell many of the same items as Ryabe. Possible reasons for this include the use of the same suppliers, this shop operating as a wholesaler or marketplace, the same owner operating multiple stores and/or selling on multiple platforms, the use of stolen images, etc.

With that being said, I found several of the same products on AliExpress, Amazon, etc. for much cheaper. For example, I found the below pants for $40.99 on Ryabe, and $9.89 on Amazon.

Based on the reverse image search results, I believe these are near-identical, low-quality items offered at vastly different prices.

Website/Company Search

No suspicious information (such as lawsuits or alerts from the Better Business Bureau) was found.

Do I Recommend This Shop?

Based on my experience, this company is a SCAM and I would avoid shopping here. Here are 4 reasons why:

  1. In the process of checking the USPS tracking information for a purchase I made with Valanio (same seller as Ryabe), I was notified (by USPS) that counterfeit postage was used and I could not view any tracking info.
  2. They falsely advertise their products. A dress I ordered claimed to be made of nearly HALF elastane, yet had no stretch.
  3. I had to ask for the return address FOUR TIMES. They repeatedly tried to get me to accept a partial refund (and keep the items) instead.
  4. I HIGHLY suspect they are greenwashing, and all of their sustainability claims are fake.

Additionally, their clothing quality is bad/mediocre, and they are very overpriced. So, although you may miraculously find an item or two that are okay, they are not worth your money or time.

To wrap up this post, regardless of my experience, be sure to read as many customer reviews as possible.
